Jean Marie Valsin-Trahan passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017, at the Medical Center of South East Texas.
A memorial service will be held at Calvary Mortuary Chapel on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. Family and friends will gather thereafter at Kingdom Dominion Church Fellowship Hall, 3600 Memorial Blvd, Port Arthur, TX, beginning around 1:00 P.M.
Jean Marie Valsin was born on October 19, 1957, to the union of Oliver Vanwright and Ollie Mae James and lived a life of boldness, strength and courage. She endured like a soldier and fought a good fight. Her beautiful smile and good heart touched the lives of many who crossed her path. Jean was a very selfless person, who would give you the shirt off her back, cared for many children and took some of them in to her home.
Jean Marie Valsin and Nelson Trahan, Sr. were united in Holy Matrimony and shared many years of marital bliss.
Jean Marie, also known as Jeanna Claire, Clarise, and her "alter ego" Jeanette, was a resident of Port Arthur, Texas and a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School, class of 1976. She was on dialysis for over twelve years and became the Patient Advocate for the Golden Triangle, encouraging many to seek God for strength and healing. She was a faithful member of Kingdom Dominion Church where she served as head of the greeters.
Jean Marie was preceded in death by her mother, Ollie Mae James-Castillo; her fathers, Ervin Castillo & Oliver Vanwright; her sister, Mary Ann Burr; and best friend, Debra Fay Zeno.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: three children, Patricia Valsin-Wallace of Nederland, TX; Nelson Joseph Trahan, Jr. (Ashley) of Port Arthur, TX; and Joshua Trahan (Deborah) of Port Neches, TX; a niece she raised as her own, Robin Otis; five sisters, Dorothy Jefferson, Linda Dennis (Kevin), Johanna Cole (John), Julia Castillo and Evelyn Vanwright, all of Port Arthur, TX; ten grandchildren, Ke'shon, Paige, Nelson III, Erin, Steven, Jasmine, Aisha, Ja'Kelvin, Jaden & Ja'Veon; three god-children, Larry Green, Brian Valsin & Ge'Lisa Denison; a special & devoted cousin Joyce Linzer; close friends, Nelson Trahan, Sr., Rodric Wallace, Dora Minix, Judy Shedrick & Dorothy Milton; along with a host of nieces & nephews.
