Obituary

Julia Poullard passed away peacefully on February 10, 2019 surrounded by family and friends.
Julia was born on October 16, 1935, in Mallet, Louisiana to James and Pearl Fontenot. As a child, Julia and her family relocated to Beaumont, Texas. In her formative years Julia's curious nature fuelled her life-long passion for learning and teaching.
In 1956, Julia married the love of her life, John Poullard Jr. This union was blessed with three amazing sons. John and Julia instilled in their boys strong Christian values and family devotion. A devoted Catholic, Julia was an active member of the Lady's Sodality. She and John could always be found sitting together for church services; a tradition they proudly passed on to their kids.
Julia expressed her love for her family in many ways. One of the best ways, was through the amazing family and holiday dinners she prepared with genuine love and care. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. There were times when her grandson Colin would simply say he would love some gumbo, and off Julia would go without a word and whip up a batch just for him.
Julia graduated from Hebert High School. She began her working career at Texas State Optical. Julia had always dreamed of pursuing a higher education so, while still raising her family she switched gears and pursued a degree in Early Childhood Development at Lamar University. During this time, Julia worked at her Aunt's day-care and the LL Melton YMCA day-care. Julia earned a degree in 1983 and became a PreK/Kindergarten Teacher at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic School. She worked as a teacher for 21 years and helped many young minds flourish. Julia was a beloved teacher and respected colleague.
After retirement, Julia spent her free time traveling, exercising with her sister, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Julia was a good and faithful servant of God, and has earned her place in heaven. She was preceded in death by her loving husband John Poullard Jr. Her two cherished and deeply loved grandchildren Tyeshia Poulard and Colin Poulard. Parents: James and Pearl Fontenot, sisters: Marjorie Fontenot and Rosalie Abbott, and brother, Ronald Fontenot.
Julia will live on in the heart of those who loved and cherished her, Sons, Michael Poulard, Sr. (Joyce), Brian Poulard (Denise), and Jonathan Poulard (Kim), grandchildren, Candice Poulard, Michael Poulard, Jr., Katherine Poulard, Nicholas Poulard, and Cole Poulard; Sister: Georgia Orsot (Henry), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
