Marvin Dwight "Phat Daddy" Raymond , was born January 9, 1951, in Beaumont, Texas to Callie A. and Clarence Earl Raymond who proceeded him in death.  Marvin was baptized and spent his childhood and young adult years as a member of the East Mount Olive Baptist Church.

On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, Marvin descended from his earthly body free of pain and illness, following a brief admission to Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas.

Marvin attended West Oakland Elementary School and was quickly recognized as a gifted and talented student by his teachers.  His scholastic achievements in math, and science flourished during junior high and high school. He attended Hebert High School and continued to excel in the classroom.  His academic achievements and popularity among his classmates led to him being elected Vice President of the 1969 Hebert High School senior class.  During his senior year, Marvin received recognition as a National Merit Scholarship Program finalist because of his excellent academic record and outstanding PSAT test scores.  Marvin graduated Magna Cum Laude from Hebert High School.  After graduation, he enrolled and attended the University of Houston.

Marvin lived in Houston, Texas, working as a machinist with Continental Can Company alongside his father for many years.  When not working he pursued several hobbies and interests that included running for pleasure and competition, cross county solo road trips, attendance at local and national concerts and reggae festivals.  He competed in the annual Beach to Bay Corpus Christi Marathon, Lamar University sponsored running events and made numerous friends while running in Memorial Park daily.  He was an avid reader, health food and exercise enthusiast, organic gardener and fisherman.

As a South 5th and Booker Street Gang resident, Marvin's kindness and willingness to help in the neighborhood will be missed.  He was known to volunteer at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church side by side with his sister Bennie and the other ladies in the neighborhood.  He tutored the school aged children throughout the years, there wasn't a math problem that he wasn't able to solve.  He listened and imparted wisdom to anyone who needed a listening ear without judgement.

His oldest sister, Audry Fay Washington Nellums proceeded him in death. Marvin's passing has brought sadness to the hearts of all who knew and loved him.    To cherish his memories, Marvin leaves his five siblings:  Darnell Collins of San Antonio, TX, Bennie Sonnier, Beaumont, TX, Brenda Senigal (Kenneth), Beaumont, TX, Michael Raymond, Beaumont, TX and Vanessa Raymond Braithwaite, Rosharon, TX., 12 nieces and nephews, 15 great-nieces and nephews and 7 great-great nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives, friends and neighbors.
